Jellie Park

On Friday the year 7 and 8's at school took a trip to Jellie Park. Jellie Park is a big outdoor and indoor swimming pool, but we only got to go to the outdoor one. Outside there were three hydroslides; two of them were the same but there was another one too. The two different types of hydroslides were: a really fast slide and a slower, twisty slide. At the start of the day I went firstly in the pool, then I went on the hydroslide with some of my friends. I'm not going to explain the whole day in detail but I pretty much just kept going back and forth from the pool to the hydroslide, occasionally getting food to eat and walking around the pool. It was really fun but I got sunburnt quite a bit.

Tessellations

Today in maths we got to learn about tessellations. A tessellation is when you have lots of the same shape put together, and there are no gaps. I had to make three pages of tessellations, each with different shapes.

Here are my tessellations:

Maths

Today in maths we focused on more rotation. We got to go on a site to practise rotating shapes and we had to answer questions to make sure we understood what we were learning. Here is the site we were on: https://www.mathsisfun.com/geometry/rotation.html
I thought the site was easy to use but the questions were confusing and I couldn't quite see the answers I was chosing from.

A & P Show Update!

 A & P Show Update

Here is an update on how my A & P show projects are going. For the A & P show I am expected to enter at least 1, possibly 2, entries into the A & P show, and I have entered 3. I am really happy with myself because art the start I didn't know what to enter. This brings me to what I actually am doing. I have entered, driftwood art, pet photography and animal cupcakes/cookies. I am doing the driftwood art and pet photography by myself but the cookies I am doing with 4 other people. The animal cookies we are doing is donkey and pig faces. We are going to make the cookies at school, a couple of days before the actual show but we still need to figure out what we need for the pigs faces and we need to figure out a time to go to the supermarket and get the actual ingredients. The flavours we are doing for the cookies are chocolate, strawberry and vanilla. Here are some of the designs we are thinking of doing.

Hikihiki - New playground

We have a new playground at school called Hikihiki. The playground has 2 basket swings, 2 slides, and heaps of climbing and balancing things. There is also a giant rope merry-go-round.  The new playground was really popular at first and for some classes, it still is, but lots of people have started to find it not as popular and they have not been on the playground so much. My favourite part of the playground is the basket swings because they can go really high and they are also fun when you are pushing the swings for other people. Although these are really fun there are lots of people on them and most of the time we are waiting to get on all break and don't get a go. To rate the playground out of ten I would rate it a 6. I choose 6 because I find it too hard to do what I want on the playground because there are too many people at a time. I think this playground was a good idea though because lots of kids are enjoying it and having fun on it! Here are some photos of my class on the playground.

Building an Octagonal Pyramid

For maths today we had to build a 3D shape. I chose to build the octagonal pyramid. An octagonal pyramid is a 3D pyramid which has an octagonal base. It also has 8 verteces (corners) and 16 edges.

Creating 3D Shapes in Maths

Yesterday during maths I had to design and build a 3D square base pyramid. The guidelines we had to follow were: it had to have a 4cm by 4cm square base and the height had to be 6cm high. We also had to add tabs to glue the shape together. The hardest part of this challenge was the glueing the shape at the end. Even though it was hard, I got the measurements right and I completed the challenge. Here is a photo of my shape compared to a rubber to show how small or big it actually was.

Rāwhiti School A & P Show

This year the A & P show is cancelled due to COVID-19 so my school (Rāwhiti) is going to hold it's very own show.

There are 4 different categories to enter; Produce and Craft, Whānau challenges (to do with your family), All creatures great and small, and how does your garden grow.

One idea I am thinking of doing is videoing my pet/s doing a trick. I am really excited about entering the A & P Show and I think it is a great idea for our school. We can enter as many competitions as we like so I think I am going to do a few entries as well as family challenges too.

Maths - Polygons

We are focusing on learning about the properties of a polygon. A polygon must be 2D, be made of straight lines, all of the lines are closed in and has no gaps, and polygons have no intersecting lines. This picture shows how I sorted the shapes into what were polygons and what weren't.

Ways Manners Help the World Go Better

  1. Using manners makes you a better person.

  2. If you use manners regularly, you will have more friends and people will like you more because you are polite.

  3. When you use manners you are being grateful.

  4. Using manners is showing respect to others.

  5. If you are tidy and regularly pick up your mess, you are noticing the fact you have made a mess.

  6. Speaking in a low or quiet voice keeps a room peaceful. Being loud can be a distraction and can count as invading others' personal space.

  7. Getting on with a job or something you have been told to do is being respectful of that person by following the instructions they have given you.

  8. If you touch other people and invade their personal space and privacy you are being disrespectful of that person's privacy.

  9. Not using bad or offensive language is being respectful of everyone else you are near because using bad language makes you look bad as a person.

  10. Asking other people about their day or how they are feeling can make the other person’s day a lot better and can cheer them up.

  11. Making other people feel better by recognising they are in trouble or need help is being helpful and can make you feel good about yourself too.

  12. Appreciating others' helpfulness makes you look better as a person and helps other people by recognising their help and acknowledging them.

  13. Taking the blame for yourself instead of blaming other people and lying, is making the scene not last as long and when you get it over and done with, everyone can get on with something else.

  14. Be honest to everyone. Being honest with people can make people like you and let you have lots of friends and people can trust you because they know you don’t lie to others.

  15. Be kind to those around you. When you are rude and disrespectful, people will hate you and not like you. It will also make you feel unhappy or angry if you are rude to others.

  16. Seeing a good, funny or positive side to every mistake is a good skill to have and can help people realise everything isn’t always bad.

  17. Compliment people regularly. It can give people a good reason to be happy and it makes them happy to hear something nice about themselves. A compliment can even just be about how nice you think they are or “you like them because they are funny.” It can make everyone’s day much better.

  18. By using manners you can be a better person. Without manners the world would be like a pig sty because no-one would take care of anything or anyone.

  19. Noticing others mistakes and helping them fix it.

  20. Thinking about how others may react. If you realise that something you do is going to make someone react badly, don’t do it.

  21. Giving things that aren’t yours back to the person that owns it.

  22. Ignoring people doing the wrong thing can make that person stop being disrespectful and can make that person realise what they are doing wrong.

  23. If you can see an argument starting, don't be a part of it.

Tech

Today at tech we started our term 4 classes. I am in cooking for first block and digitech for second block.

Cooking

In cooking this term we are focusing on cutural foods. Today we looked at New Zealand and we made a modern day hangi pack. Traditional hangi's are made in a hole underground with hot rocks at the base and cabbage leaves to seperate the rocks from the food. Then the food goes into baskets and is put underground. It is usually left for over an hour to cook. The vegetables that go into the hangi is potato, kumara (sweet potato), pumpkin, carrot and cabbage. There is also chicken included in the hangi. Along with this food you can make a stuffing mix, and roll it together to make stuffing balls. Once the stuffing balls are made you place all of the food on a piece of tinfoil and add a tablespoon of water on top of the food. After that seal the food completly so it can cook properly, especially the chicken because if chicken isn't cooked properly it can give you food poisoning. Once you have prepared the meal, cook your hangi in an oven at 200º fan forced. In about 45 minutes the hangi will be cooked.

Digitech

In digitech we are going to be creating our own game using coding and scratch. Yesterday we all did the same game but we had to do the second half of the coding in pairs or by ourselves.

Literacy Reflection

For the last few weeks in literacy, we have been looking at how the authors and directors tell and show the reader or viewer about the character. A few of the ways authors and directors do this is by looking at the different elements: Actions, speech, environment, costume and general appearance of the characters.

We looked at a few different scenes from the Harry Potter series and read some pieces from the book. We were looking at the elements and deliberate choices the authors and directors use to introduce a character.

An example is the way Hermione talks properly and speaks the full words compared to how Ron speaks when he speaks all the words together and uses slang.

In the following scene Jessica and I have included the use of the different elements to introduce our characters. One of my friends gave me feedback on my script by highlighting the different elements in my script. Appearance: Yellow, Environment: Green, Actions: Red and Speech/Words: Blue.

I think my script turned out well and I did a good job creating the characters because I have thought about the characters words, attitude, appearance and more.

My next steps are to organise my time and make sure I have enough time to finish my work. I also need to work on including more words to describe the appearance and environment in a scene.

Vera is in science class. She is asked to be buddies for the session. Ada is the only other girl in the class without a partner. She has never met this girl before and is shy. Once they start on the science project, Ada thinks it's funny to stuff up by using rare potions as a joke, even though she doesn’t know how they work. But Vera does. So once Ada pours the potion in the mix the two spark with friendship magic. The next day they become instant friends, the potion was a friendship potion. Of course!

Teacher: “Does anyone not have a partner?”

Ada: (calls out loudly, waving her hand)  “Me! I don’t have a partner.”

Teacher: “Okay anyone else?”

Vera mumbles that she doesn’t have a partner but the teacher can’t understand what she is trying to say.

Teacher: “What was that Vera?”

Vera: mumbles again.

Teacher: “Ada, you can go with Vera.”

Ada: confidently walks over to Vera’s table and sits down next to her.

Ada: (talking nonstop really fast.) “Hi, I’m Ada. Nice to meet you, how’s your day going? Mine is just fine, I got to hang out with the popular girls at break time!”

Ada rants off about her day as if she's met Vera before

Ada: (Really fast talking and what she's ranting about.) “My little brother fell down today and I laughed and it turned out that he almost broke his leg… and he cried all day haha. It was also kind of scary but of course I knew he would be fine. Dad got angry with me because I didn’t listen and refused to make my bed. Gosh parents are annoying.”

Vera thought Ada was a little strange and didn’t particularly like her.

Vera: (harsh voice)“Do you mind?! I don’t actually care about you I’m only with you because of this stupid science project!”

Ada: “Geez. Didn’t realise you had a bad temper. Maybe you should fix that for next time.”

The girls behind snigger at Ada’s small joke.

Vera: “Maybe you should get started on the science project.” (the word ‘you’ is spoken back to her, based off of her past sentence)

Ada: (Enthusiastic voice) “Okay, let’s go then. What do we have to do?”

Vera: “Didn’t you listen?!”

Ada (Sighing): “I guess not.”

Vera: “Well we have to make a science potion so we can get better grades.”

Ada: “I’m putting this into the potion and also I don’t care about my grades, they don’t matter anyway.”

Ada holds up a bottle of fraelin and tips it into the large container.

Vera: “Ada, NO!”

Ada: “Why not smarty pants. I can do whatever I want.”

Vera: “Can’t you see?! I’m wanting to get good grades here for once and you think it’s funny to add whatever you want into this potion. It will do something deadly, I’ve read all about these chemicals.”

Ada: “You can’t stop me.”

Teacher: “What’s happening here?”

Ada: “I’m just pouring stuff into the potion glass.

The teacher glances over at Ada.

Teacher: “And do you know what those chemicals are?”

Ada: “No but that doesn’t matter. Nothing bad will happen.”

The rest of the session Ada is pouring random stuff into the glass and Vera is about to storm out of the room, but she doesn’t.

Vera:  (calm voice) Ada...for the last time, please, can we just do the right thing.”

Ada: “Fine, okay. Do whatever you want. Please yourself you clearly don’t want me here helping so see you.”

Ada leaves the science room.

Vera: (Sarcastic voice) “Thank god she’s gone.”

Vera finishes her project before the girls’ break. She is given an A+ while Ada is given a D- for her effort in her work but not listening to her teacher.

Ada comes back.

Vera: (enthusiastically) “Yay I got an A+!”

Ada: (grumbling and sarcastic) “Yay (eye roll), I got a D-.”

Sailing

On Tuesday the year 8's went sailing. I had never been sailing before and I was super nervous about trying it. We firstly took a bus to Lake Rua, then got taught the rules and how the day was going to work. Next we learnt to set up the boat and put all the pieces on properly, then we got to do the setting up. After the setting up we had morning tea, then a one-to-one system when there was one person and boat going out on the lake with a coach on a motorised boat. Once everyone had had one go it was lunch time and after that we had a one-to-five ratio on the water where there were five kids on the water with boats and one coach but they had all three coaches on the water and all of the boats on the water. Once we had finished sailing we packed up everything and had the choice to go for a swim. I chose to go swimming because it was so hot but the water was freezing! Overall the day was fun and exciting. Hopefully this inspires you guys to have a go at sailing.

Tangram Builder

Today in maths we used a website called tangram builder to create shapes, people and animals out of shapes. Here are some of the shapes I created. To make the tangram shapes we had to rotate, flip and slide the pieces. To create the tangrams, we are learning about angles too because we can rotate the shapes certain amount of degrees and we can see the different angles in the shapes. Like the triangles are like 90 degree angles. Here is the tangram builder website so you can create tangrams too: https://mathigon.org/tangram

William PIke Challenge Clean Up

Yesterday me and some kids from my class cleaned up the streets around school. We took giant rubbish bags and almost filled up all of them. Everyone got into groups and we each shared a bag. My group found 68 cigarette butts. We did this clean up for part of the William Pike Challenge and spent an hour doing this. On the way back from picking up rubbish, we found a lot of cardboard boxes somewhere and took them back to the school skip. It was actually a lot of fun but gross at the same time and it felt good to help our community.

School Holidays Day 2!

Today is day two of our spring school holidays, Tuesday 29th of September. Today I was at my dad's house and I did heaps of fun stuff. Here is a list of what we did:

- Board games competition

- Sports afternoon with my family

Board Games

We had a board games competition. The games we played were: inside scavenger hunt (or as we call it rainy day game.), stand up sit down and a game my brother made up which is kind of like hide and seek. What we had to do for this competition was play each game and if you win a round you get a point. I won two rounds of scavenger hunt and one round of stand up sit down. My brother Max won one point for scavenger hunt and my other brother Liam didn't win any points. It was so much fun and I suggest playing this with your family too.

Sports Afternoon

After the board games and lunch we had a sports afternoon. The sports afternoon ran like this: we played sports mini games for fun. Kind of like the board games challenge but without points and no competing.
Happy Holidays!

School Holidays Day 1!

Today is day one of our spring school holidays, Monday 28th of September. Today I was at my dad's house and I did heaps of fun stuff. Here is a list of what we did:

- Got donuts from Lyttelton Glamour Cakes

- Went to Kmart to get a ball

- Had lunch at Cocopelli

- Watched Cats and Dogs 3

- Saw my nana.

Donuts

We got donuts from the Lyttelton shop 'Glamour Cakes'. They were really good and the one I chose was a banoffee donut which was designed like a burger with the donut being buns. It also had (from the bottom up.), banana, cream and caramel. It was so good.

Getting my Fuzz Face ball

I got a fuzz face ball which is a ball covered in fluff with an emoji on it.

Lunch at Cocopelli

I had lunch at Cocopelli which is a restaurant at the Palms. I chose to have bacon and cheese penne pasta and a L&P spider drink. The food and drink was really good.

Cats and Dogs 3

We also watched cats and dogs 3 at the palms. It was a good movie and you don't have to watch the other movies in order. In a rating out of ten I would give it a 9/10 because it got a bit boring in some parts of it. It is a great movie though and everyone in a family will enjoy it. The movie is about cats and dogs and a cockatiel wanting to stop cats and dogs from ruling the world because owners only look at them and forget the other animals like reptiles, guinea pigs and more. Watch it to find out more.

Visiting Nana

After the movie my family went from the movie theatre to my great nana's house to see her. It was really nice to see her because I haven't seen her since before lockdown. My nana got a table full of food for us and we talked about what had happened to everyone in the past year. My great aunt and uncle ended up there too, so we had some time to talk to them.

Overall my day was great!

Skiing

Last week kids from my class, including me, went skiing at Porter Heights Ski field.

Beginning:

I was a beginner and learnt how to stop, turn, and ski normally. At first I started on the beginner slope and was skiing in and out of cones on the snow. I was lucky nd didn't fall over on this slope but I did on the magic carpet which is a machine that takes you back up the hill. On here I was going really fast and it was so much fun!

Intermediate:

On the intermediate slope I firstly went up the poma which takes you up the hill. Next I went down the mountain but before that I had to get off the poma. I did it but almost went back down the hill. Going down the mountain was fun but I went too fast and at the end I did two flips and landing face down in the snow. It was loads of fun but I kept falling over. I was still trying though after all this to get down the mountain without falling over.

Skiing is a good sport and I think everyone should try it.

Tech

Sewing

For tech yesterday I made fingerless gloves with a label on them. The label is a bird in some flowers. They turned out okay and only took one tech session to make. The material used for this is polar fleece and is really warm. This is all I did for sewing yesterday but I am really proud of myself and happy how they turned out.

Foods/Cooking

For foods I made a calzone. It was made over two weeks, with the first week being a design and preparation week. Mine turned out really good with corn, ham, cheese, mixed herbs, onions and spinach. I turned my calzone into a twisted bun. It was really yummy.

Science and Inquiry - Birds

Poppy and I have been planning a bird house and safe space for the native birds of Christchurch. This is being done for inquiry and science but we aren't physically making it. Our next steps are to figure out what measurements are needed for this. Our plan includes everything a bird needs to survive, which has water, a good sleeping spot and we are still working on the food part of this. We have found some information on the types of food the birds like to eat but as I said, we are not finished.

This was our first design. It has three bird houses, a fence around it and the other box is for water and food.

Native Bird Plan - Science

Yesterday Poppy and I started our plan to make a safe greenspace for native birds in Christchurch. We decided to do this instead of making a healing or vege garden because we want to care for and help our native birds. This is a really basic design for a bird sanctuary.
Our design includes:
- Bird bath
- Bird house
- Fence to stop predators from entering
- Trees, plants and food for all year round

We have drawn a plan and we are looking at measurements for the bird house and the dedicated area for this project.

Tech

Sewing

In sewing at tech yesterday I finished my beanie and started to make a face mask. I found the beanie quite easy to make and the hardest part was actually the pompoms because when I started to make them, I did it in a really difficult way. But then one of my friends showed me an easier way to do it, then it was really easy from there.

Cooking

For cooking yesterday I made grissini/bread sticks. They were really good but kind of salty, which gave it good flavour. We had to do an evaluation thing on what we were going to do next week and we had to list the attributes of the bread sticks.

Published Writing

This is my writing from visual prompts and I had a friend give me feedback on my work.
1. Use interesting language and/or technical vocabulary that matches my topic and purpose.
2. Use a variety of sentence structures, beginnings and lengths to give effect.

Original:
He lies in the poppy field, dead. He had wanted to fight for his country, but instead sacrificed his life. Barely able to see his body, someone manages to find him. The body is carried to a bed and is checked to see if he is still a living human. No heartbeat. No life. Another life taken.

Lucy hears the sad news of her father's death. She cries and cries until the night arrives. The survivor soldiers came home a week ago and have only just heard about this.
“If you had paid more attention you might have realised he was gone.”
“Yes I guess that is true but we were out there fighting for you. What would you rather, your father dead because he tried to save you or he died because he was killed right here? Think about it.”
“I guess you are right.”

He had wanted to fight for his country, but instead sacrificed his life. For his daughter, Lucy. Barely able to see his body, someone manages to find him. He is wheeled across the grassy terrain in a hospital bed, the wheels fighting hard to move. This bed hadn’t been used for so long, the bed had almost become a statue! Published Literacy Writing

My writing goals:
1. Use a variety of sentence structures, beginnings and lengths to give effect.
2. Write in structured, well developed paragraphs that flow well from one to the next within the text.

Original:
I let the dog loose off the lead. He runs eagerly away from me and soon disappears into the forest. I let him run, I let him disappear because I know he is going to come back. I grip the tree, letting my body lean against it. A stick returns minutes later with an owner of it panting and jumping around waiting for me to throw it. I don’t throw it, I don’t want to. The dog tries to climb onto my jacket and I laugh. Of course only Benji does that, he’s the only dog I know who will sit on my shoulder and lick my face. His soft coat against my skin is so warm. I take him home and wrap him in a warm blanket. He looks happy. I leave him for some time. I come back an hour later and he is looking from me to his red lead and collar on the shelf. I give in and take him back to the forest. I open my eyes and think to my self. Was this really just a dream? I guess it was because I am in my room and Benji is sitting on his dog bed.

Solving Measurement Problems

Today I had to complete a sheet about measurement. Firstly I had to draw a shape for a sandpit. The area had to be 16m2 and the perimeter had to be 20m. I drew a shape with two sides of 2m and two sides with 8m. The next question was to find the cost for sand, then the labour costs. I figured this out, then took off the 5% discount. I found this a little bit tricky only because I had to do so many different problems to get the answer. Here is the problem.

Planting on Friday

On Friday, I was part of a group that went to Rawhiti Domain to do some tree planting. We planted native trees that are hopefully going to attract some native birds to our community. This was really fun and only took about half an hour to plant the trees. But the rest of the time we were on the playground. It was really cool, we played a few tag games and there were also heaps of people on the seesaws.Hopefully in ten years time I will be able to come back and look at the trees I helped plant.

Area of a Triangle

The formula I used to solve this equation is 1/2 base x height.

Area of a Circle

We have been learning about finding the area of a circle. The formula for this is
π = 3.142
π x r x r
= π x 5 x 5 (radius)
= 78.5m3

You could also write π x r x r

That is how you find the area of a circle. We use pi and this formula to make it easier for ourselves instead of counting each individual square in the circle.

How I found Area

Lately we have been learning about area. I have found area kind of easy only because I have previously learnt that. What I think I have struggled with the most is finding the area with decimals because I think it is a bit more harder than whole numbers. To find the area of a square you multiply the length by the width of the shape to get the answer. Area is the surface area of the shape. Formula's are a guide line to follow and write the equation out and to put everything into the correct sequence.
This is the formula used to find area. A = l x w

Tech Term Three

Today at tech we started our term three groups.

This term I am doing sewing and foods/cooking. In sewing we are going to make beanies and fingerless gloves. My beanie is going to be black and have two white pompoms on the top of it. It is also going to have a letter 'C' on it. I haven't started my fingerless gloves yet.

In cooking we made Quesidillas. Mine had beans, spinach, ham, cheese, onion and corn in it. I also learnt about the different food groups. It was really fun!

Maths (Wednesday)

In maths today I completed a sheet about finding the area of different shapes and the circumference (perimeter) of a circle. We had to learn about the different formulas to get to the answer. Here are the formulas:
A = LxW
V = LxWxH
C = π x D
Area of a circle = π x r x r/ π x r2
π = 3.142

When I first learnt these formulas I found it quite hard to learn and kept getting confused which was which. Now that I have learnt them though, I can remember what one is which and know what each one is.

I could use these formulas if I was in a job that needed to work out different areas or what I could do with a particular area. These would be helpful in a sort of construction job.

I feel very happy with myself that I now know all of these formulas because I can use them if I have to. I am very proud of my maths progress at the moment.

Food Chains

Today for biology Poppy and I had to make a food chain starting with a native or endemic animal to New Zealand. We picked a Chatham Islands black robin.
The producer is a live plant which is eaten by a worm (primary consumer). A worm is then eaten by the robin (secondary consumer) who gets eaten by a hawk (tertiary consumer). A hawk is eaten by an owl (apex consumer), then an owl dies, then the mushrooms (decomposers) eat the little pieces from the owl. Then the food chain starts all over again. This was my worl for science today and I hope you like it.

Finding the Circumference of a Circle

Today in maths I had to find out the circumference of a circle. I first had to find how many of my steps could fit into the diameter of the circle then convert that back into metres. 4 footlengths fit into one metre so my 12.5 steps got converted back to 3.5 metres. The next step was to multiply 3.5 by 3.14 (pi). The answer to that was 10.99m.

Flamingo Diagram

Here is my literacy diagram. The audience I think should be for 8-10 year olds just because it is quite basic but not too basic to be for little kids. I found this kinda easy but difficult to find a topic to do my diagram on.

Adrenalin Forest

Yesterday I went to Adrenalin Forest. Adrenalin Forest was a really fun trip where I had to walk along obstacles in the trees. It was a bit scary and I was really nervous to do it because it was so high. There are 6 levels but I only went to level 2 because I didn't have time to do any more levels. I found this trip fun and I thought I really challenged myself. The scariest part was a challenge where I had to walk along this bridge thing that had gaps. I was scared because I felt I was going to fall but I knew I wasn't because I was attached to a harness.

Maths Today-Volume

Today in maths we were working out the volume of a shape. If the length was 10 metres, the width was 5 metres and the height was 4 metres, this is how I worked it out.
V = L x W x H
    = 10 x 5 x 4
    = 200m3
The total volume of the box was 200 cubic metres.

Netball Practise

This morning I did netball training with my team. We did a warm up and different exercises like doing high knees and sidesteps and other stuff. We split into two groups and practised the different types of passes. The passes are chest pass, bounce pass, shoulder pass and lob pass. After that we did another drill where we had to do little fast feet, side steps to the right, a forward sprint, side step left, then some sort of skill Melissa told us to do. After that we played a game of half court. I was first in GD, then I was moved to GS. My favourite positions to play are GS and WD. Melissa stopped us a bit into the game, and we practised passing the ball to the space the players were running to. I found this practise fun but I think I could work on finding space so I can get a pass.

Kiwi Ecosystems

Today in science we learnt about ecosystems. We had to choose a native or endemic animal to New Zealand and research about their ecosystem. I chose a kiwi and here is my ecosystem. I hope you enjoy it and learn something new.

End of Term Technology

End of Term Tech

Today was my last day doing my term two tech classes. For term two I was doing mechatronics and then sewing. I finished my bag in sewing last week so this week I could do the t-shirt design competition. My t-shirt had a fern and two dolphins on it, I didn't win though. But it was still fun.
In mechatronics we did a dot challenge where you had to code the robot to go over the coloured dots. My buddy Lila and I didn't complete the challenge but we still tried. Tech was fun and next week I have sewing again and cooking.

Dancing at the Preschool

Today Isla and I went over to the preschool to do more dancing. We made our own dance up for a Taylor Swift song Shake it Off. From our perspective the little kids liked it but I think we need to work on getting more actons and more moves for them to do. Maybe we will make up another dance for next week for the kids to do because they looked a bit bored when we kept repeating some of the moves. Overall I think the dance class is a great idea and we should keep continuing with this. This is for my William Pike Challenge, Community Service because we are doing stuff for our community.

Botanic Gardens

Yesterday we went to the Botanic Gardens. We got to learn about the different animals and plants and what their life status is. There were three different life status's we learnt about: thriving/doing well, extinct and endangered/threatened. There were also three different origin groups: introduced, native and endemic. The animals are in these groups because this is how they got here to New Zealand. We played a game too. The game was like the game head bands. We were in pairs and had to guess the animal stuck on our back, its origin group and its life status. I was a rat, introduced and thriving/doing well. We also played a game where we had to get from one side of the rope to the other on carpet squares. There were twists though. We weren't allowed to throw the carpet squares really far and we couldn't touch the ground. When you touched the ground you had to restart because you were birds and the grass was the city with all the noises. My group and I found a good way to get across the grass and it was really fun. The second round we played with the same rules but the teachers could take away squares we had lost contact with. It was really hard but it was fun. We also learnt about a timeline and we had to put our poster thing with our animal onto the timeline. At the end we had to find a plant and draw it and write facts about it. I learnt so much on this trip.

Do you know a Pufferfish?

This is my slideshow about pufferfish. You will be able to read about the taxonomic classification of a puffer fish and about it's MRSGREN. I hope you like it.

Website Review

This is my website review. I had to compare two websites from a list I was given. I chose these two and
here are my notes and ideas for you to read through. Enjoy :)
Website Review

National Geographic
Clear headings, easy to navigate.
While using the search feature I searched “pufferfish” and got the information I needed.
Has a kids feature for kids to use.
Shows a variety of pictures, videos and articles.
National Geographic Website: https://www.nationalgeographic.com/animals/

WWF (World Wildlife Fund)
Showed irrelevant information I didn’t need. I wanted information about pufferfish and
I got information about buying t-shirts.
Only has information about some animals.
Can sort a search from date.
WWF Website: https://www.worldwildlife.org/

Overall Conclusion
I think National Geographic is a lot easier to find stuff I need than the WWF website.
The WWF website also has a choice to search by date or relevance and I think for some people this would
be a great help and make it a lot easier to find relevant information. In my opinion I think National Geographic
has a better website with the information easy to find and clear, bold headings which are easy to navigate.
