School Holidays Day 2!

Today is day two of our spring school holidays, Tuesday 29th of September. Today I was at my dad's house and I did heaps of fun stuff. Here is a list of what we did:

- Board games competition

- Sports afternoon with my family

Board Games

We had a board games competition. The games we played were: inside scavenger hunt (or as we call it rainy day game.), stand up sit down and a game my brother made up which is kind of like hide and seek. What we had to do for this competition was play each game and if you win a round you get a point. I won two rounds of scavenger hunt and one round of stand up sit down. My brother Max won one point for scavenger hunt and my other brother Liam didn't win any points. It was so much fun and I suggest playing this with your family too.

Sports Afternoon

After the board games and lunch we had a sports afternoon. The sports afternoon ran like this: we played sports mini games for fun. Kind of like the board games challenge but without points and no competing.
Happy Holidays!

School Holidays Day 1!

Today is day one of our spring school holidays, Monday 28th of September. Today I was at my dad's house and I did heaps of fun stuff. Here is a list of what we did:

- Got donuts from Lyttelton Glamour Cakes

- Went to Kmart to get a ball

- Had lunch at Cocopelli

- Watched Cats and Dogs 3

- Saw my nana.

Donuts

We got donuts from the Lyttelton shop 'Glamour Cakes'. They were really good and the one I chose was a banoffee donut which was designed like a burger with the donut being buns. It also had (from the bottom up.), banana, cream and caramel. It was so good.

Getting my Fuzz Face ball

I got a fuzz face ball which is a ball covered in fluff with an emoji on it.

Lunch at Cocopelli

I had lunch at Cocopelli which is a restaurant at the Palms. I chose to have bacon and cheese penne pasta and a L&P spider drink. The food and drink was really good.

Cats and Dogs 3

We also watched cats and dogs 3 at the palms. It was a good movie and you don't have to watch the other movies in order. In a rating out of ten I would give it a 9/10 because it got a bit boring in some parts of it. It is a great movie though and everyone in a family will enjoy it. The movie is about cats and dogs and a cockatiel wanting to stop cats and dogs from ruling the world because owners only look at them and forget the other animals like reptiles, guinea pigs and more. Watch it to find out more.

Visiting Nana

After the movie my family went from the movie theatre to my great nana's house to see her. It was really nice to see her because I haven't seen her since before lockdown. My nana got a table full of food for us and we talked about what had happened to everyone in the past year. My great aunt and uncle ended up there too, so we had some time to talk to them.

Overall my day was great!

Skiing

Last week kids from my class, including me, went skiing at Porter Heights Ski field.

Beginning:

I was a beginner and learnt how to stop, turn, and ski normally. At first I started on the beginner slope and was skiing in and out of cones on the snow. I was lucky nd didn't fall over on this slope but I did on the magic carpet which is a machine that takes you back up the hill. On here I was going really fast and it was so much fun!

Intermediate:

On the intermediate slope I firstly went up the poma which takes you up the hill. Next I went down the mountain but before that I had to get off the poma. I did it but almost went back down the hill. Going down the mountain was fun but I went too fast and at the end I did two flips and landing face down in the snow. It was loads of fun but I kept falling over. I was still trying though after all this to get down the mountain without falling over.

Skiing is a good sport and I think everyone should try it.

Tech

Sewing

For tech yesterday I made fingerless gloves with a label on them. The label is a bird in some flowers. They turned out okay and only took one tech session to make. The material used for this is polar fleece and is really warm. This is all I did for sewing yesterday but I am really proud of myself and happy how they turned out.

Foods/Cooking

For foods I made a calzone. It was made over two weeks, with the first week being a design and preparation week. Mine turned out really good with corn, ham, cheese, mixed herbs, onions and spinach. I turned my calzone into a twisted bun. It was really yummy.

Science and Inquiry - Birds

Poppy and I have been planning a bird house and safe space for the native birds of Christchurch. This is being done for inquiry and science but we aren't physically making it. Our next steps are to figure out what measurements are needed for this. Our plan includes everything a bird needs to survive, which has water, a good sleeping spot and we are still working on the food part of this. We have found some information on the types of food the birds like to eat but as I said, we are not finished.

This was our first design. It has three bird houses, a fence around it and the other box is for water and food.

Native Bird Plan - Science

Yesterday Poppy and I started our plan to make a safe greenspace for native birds in Christchurch. We decided to do this instead of making a healing or vege garden because we want to care for and help our native birds. This is a really basic design for a bird sanctuary.
Our design includes:
- Bird bath
- Bird house
- Fence to stop predators from entering
- Trees, plants and food for all year round

We have drawn a plan and we are looking at measurements for the bird house and the dedicated area for this project.

Tech

Sewing

In sewing at tech yesterday I finished my beanie and started to make a face mask. I found the beanie quite easy to make and the hardest part was actually the pompoms because when I started to make them, I did it in a really difficult way. But then one of my friends showed me an easier way to do it, then it was really easy from there.

Cooking

For cooking yesterday I made grissini/bread sticks. They were really good but kind of salty, which gave it good flavour. We had to do an evaluation thing on what we were going to do next week and we had to list the attributes of the bread sticks.

Published Writing

This is my writing from visual prompts and I had a friend give me feedback on my work.
1. Use interesting language and/or technical vocabulary that matches my topic and purpose.
2. Use a variety of sentence structures, beginnings and lengths to give effect.

Original:
He lies in the poppy field, dead. He had wanted to fight for his country, but instead sacrificed his life. Barely able to see his body, someone manages to find him. The body is carried to a bed and is checked to see if he is still a living human. No heartbeat. No life. Another life taken.

Lucy hears the sad news of her father's death. She cries and cries until the night arrives. The survivor soldiers came home a week ago and have only just heard about this.
“If you had paid more attention you might have realised he was gone.”
“Yes I guess that is true but we were out there fighting for you. What would you rather, your father dead because he tried to save you or he died because he was killed right here? Think about it.”
“I guess you are right.”

He lies in the damaged poppy field, dead. Only a few poppy’s had survived. Most of them had crumbled because of the bombs and gunshots. He had wanted to fight for his country, but instead sacrificed his life. For his daughter, Lucy. Barely able to see his body, someone manages to find him. He is wheeled across the grassy terrain in a hospital bed, the wheels fighting hard to move. This bed hadn’t been used for so long, the bed had almost become a statue! He is checked to see if he is still a living human. No heartbeat. No life. Another life taken.

Lucy hears the sad news of her father's death. She cries and cries until the night arrives and her eyes were red. The surviving soldiers came home a week ago and have only just heard about this.
