Hikihiki - New playground

We have a new playground at school called Hikihiki. The playground has 2 basket swings, 2 slides, and heaps of climbing and balancing things. There is also a giant rope merry-go-round.  The new playground was really popular at first and for some classes, it still is, but lots of people have started to find it not as popular and they have not been on the playground so much. My favourite part of the playground is the basket swings because they can go really high and they are also fun when you are pushing the swings for other people. Although these are really fun there are lots of people on them and most of the time we are waiting to get on all break and don't get a go. To rate the playground out of ten I would rate it a 6. I choose 6 because I find it too hard to do what I want on the playground because there are too many people at a time. I think this playground was a good idea though because lots of kids are enjoying it and having fun on it! Here are some photos of my class on the playground.

Building an Octagonal Pyramid

For maths today we had to build a 3D shape. I chose to build the octagonal pyramid. An octagonal pyramid is a 3D pyramid which has an octagonal base. It also has 8 verteces (corners) and 16 edges.

Creating 3D Shapes in Maths

Yesterday during maths I had to design and build a 3D square base pyramid. The guidelines we had to follow were: it had to have a 4cm by 4cm square base and the height had to be 6cm high. We also had to add tabs to glue the shape together. The hardest part of this challenge was the glueing the shape at the end. Even though it was hard, I got the measurements right and I completed the challenge. Here is a photo of my shape compared to a rubber to show how small or big it actually was.

Rāwhiti School A & P Show

This year the A & P show is cancelled due to COVID-19 so my school (Rāwhiti) is going to hold it's very own show.

There are 4 different categories to enter; Produce and Craft, Whānau challenges (to do with your family), All creatures great and small, and how does your garden grow.

One idea I am thinking of doing is videoing my pet/s doing a trick. I am really excited about entering the A & P Show and I think it is a great idea for our school. We can enter as many competitions as we like so I think I am going to do a few entries as well as family challenges too.

Maths - Polygons

We are focusing on learning about the properties of a polygon. A polygon must be 2D, be made of straight lines, all of the lines are closed in and has no gaps, and polygons have no intersecting lines. This picture shows how I sorted the shapes into what were polygons and what weren't.
